How To Raise Your Stakes

We first think, then based on our thoughts we develop emotions that generate actions. So good and bad starts in your mind.

Can you imagine if God was to stop every mistake we are about to make? Again, mistakes begin in our thoughts and we have 6,000 per day on average. One unique thought every 10 seconds. The human race has 42 Trillion thoughts per day! So if God were to stop 42 Trillion thoughts per day, the universe’s energy would be drained on the first day.

God wants us to figure out how to raise our stakes so we can control our thoughts and actions and help others do the same. Now, we are blessed to be on a physical world because we can’t stop thinking stupid, but we can chose not to ACT stupid. I believe this is why God has us on earth so we can train our thoughts. If we want to kill someone we have to physically do it. If we want to commit adultery, we have to physically do it, and so on. By having this physical “barrier” it gives us the opportunity to monitor our thoughts and act according to our values or stakes. Then, when we get to a non-physical world (Heaven) we have a bit more control over our thoughts because I believe that in a non-physical environment what you think becomes reality instantly. And you can see how this can be dangerous.

We talked about how believing becomes reality on my past blog (click here to read) so it is clear that feelings originate in your head. It all begins in your mind. The fear, the admiration, the respect or lack of all begins in the way you think. But how the heck can you control your thoughts?

One way is to fill your mind with only good things. Police your inputs and only allow the good stuff in.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.Philippians 4:8

And you may be saying: “In the world as we live today this is impossible I would have to stare only at my walls all day for the rest of my life, to avoid bad input!”

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2

You don’t have to conform to this world (conform = do what everybody else does) you can be different. Remember who is your heavenly father. Did you not listen to your parents? So do the same with your heavenly father.

But how to know if a thought or idea is good and Godly? One way is to test it. I remember my corporate days in Marketing our rule for posts about a client were simply “If you need to ask someone if this post is offensive, most likely it is.” If you doubted yourself if that post would be offensive or inappropriate, you had to err on the side of caution. Don’t do it. So if you have doubts in your heart if a thought is from God, it is because it may be not. When God gives you a thought He will give you peace around it. Even if it is a crazy idea but you have peace about it, most likely it is from God.

Another question to ask is: “Does this idea bring me closer to God or further away from God”. This is also a good question for your personal Goals. This idea, opportunity, etc. brings me closer to my Goal or further away from it.

And lastly, does it take me out of my comfort zone? (ouch). Yes, unfortunately God rarely gives us more of the same. He is always, always putting us in situations where we have to stretch and grow. Earth is a school for Heaven and everyday is a new lesson. So even if you don’t agree with a thought, but it brings you peace, it is not offensive, brings you closer to God or your goal and scares you, yep that came from God.
